Four points of contact in salsa dance

Author: Salsa one of the most beautiful dances form, known for its sensual moves, great postures and colorful dresses. This seductive dance form originated from the Cuba. Its movement has a strong influence of dances of Danzon, Mambo, Guaguanco and other Afro- Cuban folkloric dancing. Today the salsa dancing is a mixture of Latin-American and western dances including the ballroom dancing.
Salsa is basically a partner dance in which man and woman are in closed position facing each other. Traditional salsa dance consider man as a leader and link building india woman as a follower during the dance. There are some accepted solo forms also like pole dancing and Rueda de casino where group of couples exchange partners.
Every dance form has certain basic postures so is with the salsa. In salsa there are four basic points of contact between man and woman. These are:
- Man holds the lady’s right hand with his left hand
- The right hand of the man is around the lady’s waist.
- The left hand of the woman is placed on the man’s shoulder.
- And the most important step of a salsa dance is that; man and woman never break the eye contact. They maintain the eye contact through out the salsa.
A partner looks passionately in the eye of the partner if one Looses eye contact with the partner, the dance looses all its charms.

Indian Classical Dance – An Overview
Indian classical dance is a new term for various codified art forms rooted in Natya, the sacred Hindu musical theatre styles, whose theory can be traced back to the Natya Shastra of Bharata Muni in 400 BC. With the advancements of time, new methodologies in dance have been added in the Indian dance arena.
Out of the 9 recognized Indian classical dance forms, the only 2 temple dance styles have their origin in Natya Shastra are Odissi and Bharata Natyam. These 2 are also prescribed by the Agamas. These 2 most faithfully adhere to the Natya Shastra, but currently don’t include Vaachikaabhinaya (which is also called dialog acts), although some styles of Bharata Natyam, prescribe the lip movements indicating Vaachikaabhinaya.
Kuchipudi, another popular form of Indian classical dance, prescribes the lip movements indicating Vaachikaabhinaya, and Mohiniyattam are relatively recent Darbari Aatam forms.
One thing needs to be considered here, in the preset time the Sangeet Natak Akademi (the apex body of Indian music and dance) does not consider the recently reconstructed dance styles of Andhra Pradesh such as Vilasini Natyam and Andhra Natyam as “classical”.
